Lifestyle Maintenance or New Year’s Resolution?

Lifestyle maintenance is ongoing vs. our forgotten New Year’s Resolution. Don’t get me wrong. Beginning of each year we sincerely re-evaluate our last year’s lifestyle choices. And decide it is time to start off fresh. Does this sound familiar to any of us? This time let’s ask ourselves a question. Shall we pursue lifestyle maintenance or unkept New Year’s Resolution?

The Fitness Goal

The fitness challenge this year and moving forward is called daily maintenance. I know. We don’t like to be reminded that energy comes through movement. Yes, physical activity not sedentary lifeless movements.

The Fitness Challenge

The fitness challenge requires us to live an active lifestyle continuously.Yes, that means move, move, and continue to physically move. Active movement requires more movement than the exercise we get from walking to and from the car between agenda changes. Also, more toning and sculpting than the one or two squats we get from sitting and standing up during work or home shift changes.

The fitness challenge is not hard. We will reference it as KISS fitness movements. The acronym stands for K-Keep; I-It-S-Simple; S-Sweaty.

Here is the fitness challenge. Let’s park our cars further away from our destination. Make sure to keep a distance within the site and awareness of our surroundings. Next, Before sitting down, add a couple of more squats. Pick a number between 5 and 10. Try this at least 3 times throughout our day. If we are trying to not engage, remind ourselves that 5 or more times we get up for bathroom lunch or meeting breaks.

In addition, while just standing, march in place, try yoga poses, and do a dance. Also, during mealtime, if tempted to overeat, try some table push-ups and away.

The final challenge, is if you are not engaged in a weekly fitness program, join one. There are a couple of options: fitness center, community gym, online fitness choices, and family fun fitness.

If you are engaged in a fitness ritual, re-examine to make sure you are still receiving healthy benefits. On the other hand, if routines are compalent and boring it is time to change.
